Madonna vs. Lady Gaga: shall the war began

Madonna declared "open war" to Lady Gaga during the first concert of her new tour MDNA, in Tel Aviv
Since the release of her single Born This Way, in the beginning of 2011, a lot was written about Lady Gaga, being her accuse of plagiarism of the 80´s classic Express Yourself, by Madonna. Immediately Gaga answer to these critics, in the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, stating that the Queen of Pop sent her an e-mail sending her “love and completely support”.

Although the comparisons continue, mainly from Madonna´s fans, the situation seemed to calm down, until the end of May 2012, during the Madonna´s opening tour concert, in Tel Aviv, Israel, that will pass in Portugal on June 24th 2012.

In spite of never saying anything about the suppose plagiarism, on May 31st 2012, Madonna broke the silence and present a mash-up of her Express Yourself with Born This Way, by the 25-year-old woman, concluding  with “she´s not me”. (watch the following video)

Only on June 7th, on a concert in Auckland, New Zealand, Lady Gaga would respond taking a higher level: during the performance of Hair, sat on a motorbike/piano, Gaga stated:

“It sometimes makes people feel better about themselves, you know, to put other people down or make fun of them or maybe make mockery of their work. I don´ t even want to fight back because it´s more important to me to keep writing music. […] Things are really different now than they were 25 years ago, and that´s what make Born This Way so relevant for me. We´re socially in a completely different place and it´s ok, we don´t have to all slice and hate each other anymore.” (watch the following video)

Without referring the name of her idol, Lady Gaga won, for Shout, this first round, by avoiding the low level of Madonna´s desperate criticism, thought in a context of an amazing performance. However, it is important to refer that in spite of her attitude and in spite of having referred Gaga´s music as “reductive” on a previous interview, the Queen of Pop considers the author of Bad Romance a real artist.

We wait for more developments and, in this way, the real winner of this diva´s battle that for a long time was missing in the music world.

Greetings,
Shout
